The 5th annual Samui Open Beach Volleyball Tournament willbe held on Koh Samui from March 10 to March 12. The tournament will take placeat the Royal Muang Samui Villas on Choeng Mon Beach. Organized by Biggs IslandProductions, the event was established in 2016 to cater to the growing globalinterest in beach volleyball and contribute to the sports tourism sector in Thailand.
This year's tournament has attracted 120 athletes and 80teams from 28 countries, with 80% of the participants coming from overseas and20% being Thai and foreign nationals. In addition to the tournament, there willbe a 3-day training camp conducted by HUB Beach Volleyball Camp from Australia.
The Samui Open is the largest event of its kind yet, and itis supported by the Tourism Association of Koh Samui (TAKS) and Koh SamuiMunicipality (Tessaban). The competition will feature four divisions: Men's2×2, Women's 2×2, Mix 2×2, and Quads 4×4. The gameplay will span three days,culminating in the awarding of titles, prizes, trophies, medals, sponsorvouchers, volleyball gear, and apparel to the winners.
Spectators are welcome to attend the tournament, free ofcharge, and enjoy live DJs, concession stands, and volleyball merchandise. Thematches will take place from 9 am to 6 pm daily, with the semi-finals andfinals scheduled for Sunday, March 12, starting at 1 pm. Following thetournament, an 'Appreciation' party will be held at Pure Beach Club, featuringa live band, fireworks, and food and drink specials.
Tournament Director and Organizer, Cord Biggs, expressedgratitude for the local supporters and pride in bringing world-class beachvolleyball to Koh Samui, stating, "We are proud to promote beachvolleyball in South East Asia and on Koh Samui and to hold this annual event onour beautiful island."
