Wattanapat Samui Hospital Opens on Koh Samui

In early 2023, the newly opened Wattanapat Samui Hospital set out to enhance medical and wellness tourism on Koh Samui, one of Thailand's most popular holiday islands. With its opening, Koh Samui had a total of five medical facilities.

The hospital was equipped with 380 beds, specialised staff and modern equipment, which was expected to increase confidence in Koh Samui as a wellness destination.

Inauguration by the Governor

The hospital was inaugurated by Dr Somchai Chansawang, CEO of Wattanapat Hospital Trang Plc, together with the provincial governor, Wichawut Jinto, and other senior officials.

Governor Wichawut highlighted the province's tourism goal of transforming Koh Samui into a wellness destination. He said the new hospital would play a vital role in building trust and attracting more foreign tourists to the neighbouring islands of Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao.

He emphasised that Koh Samui not only offers high-quality tourism experiences and beautiful natural attractions, but also places importance on wellness and health activities. With wellness tourism growing worldwide, the governor saw the new hospital as a significant opportunity for the three islands to tap into this market.

Health, Safety and Visitor Numbers

Many tourists prioritise their health, safety and well-being when choosing where to travel, and the opening of Wattanapat Samui Hospital catered to those needs.

In the previous year, tourist arrivals on the three islands surpassed one million visitors, triple the number seen during the pandemic period. For 2023, the islands anticipated double or triple that number, potentially reaching up to three million travellers.

A Growing Wellness Offer

Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao already offered a range of health resorts, spas, health restaurants, weight loss centres, beauty and anti-aging facilities, and other wellness services. The islands also have abundant resources for preventive, traditional Thai and alternative medicine.
