Samui Regatta 2026: Team Hollywood wins again off Chaweng

Team Hollywood won the 23rd Samui Regatta, sailed off Chaweng Beach in the last week of May 2026.

The 23rd Samui Regatta ended on 30 May 2026 with a second title in a row for Team Hollywood, the boat skippered by Ray Roberts. The international sailing week took place off Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui.

Seven races, one clear winner

According to the reports on Sail-World, all keelboats raced in a single IRC Open class this year. The fleet sailed seven races, a mix of short windward-leeward courses and longer coastal routes. Each boat could drop its worst result.

Team Hollywood won six of the seven races and finished with 6 points. The final ranking was:

  • Team Hollywood, skipper Ray Roberts: 6 points
  • Alive: 12 points
  • Iolanthe 3, skipper Terry Foster: 19 points
  • Aftershock: 20 points

Alive, a boat that has won the Sydney to Hobart race twice, crossed the finish line first in every race. Under the handicap system, however, corrected time decides the result, and that favoured Team Hollywood.

Where and when

The regatta was based at the Nora Beach Resort and Spa in Chaweng, and the closing party was held at the Fair House Beach Resort. The organiser is Regattas Asia. Sail-World gives the dates as 24 to 30 May, while the Thai daily Thairath announced 23 to 30 May. We could not confirm which day counts as the official start.

The same Sail-World reports note that fleets at regattas across the region have become smaller since the Covid-19 period. Only four boats are named in the 2026 results.

What the event brings to the island

Before the event, Thairath reported that more than 300 participants were expected from Asia, Australia, Europe and America. According to the newspaper, the previous edition generated about 80 million baht for the local economy and media exposure worth more than 50 million baht. These are figures announced by the organisers and their partners, not independent measurements.

The president of the Koh Samui Tourism Promotion Association, Sukrit Thongsuk, presented the regatta as a way to attract visitors who combine sport, lifestyle and travel. The event is part of the Asian yachting circuit and is described as the only multi-class sailing competition in the Gulf of Thailand.

What it means for your stay

The regatta falls in late May, outside the main holiday peaks. You do not need a boat to enjoy it. The races can be seen from the beach in Chaweng, and the evening events bring life to the hotels on the east coast. Crews and supporters travel in groups and stay for the whole week, so a shared house near Chaweng or Choeng Mon can be a practical base. If you plan to come for the 2027 edition, look early at our villas for rent in Koh Samui.
