Koh Samui Ferry Fares Rise on Seatran Don Sak Route
· Luxy Samui
Seatran Ferry raised its Don Sak to Koh Samui fare by 10 baht to 180 baht from 14 March 2026 because of higher fuel costs.
Seatran Ferry raised its fares between the mainland and the islands on 14 March 2026. The Nation reported the change on 13 March 2026. The fare on the Don Sak to Koh Samui route went from 170 baht to 180 baht. The company gave higher world energy and fuel prices as the reason.
The new fares
Two routes from Don Sak pier in Surat Thani province are affected:
- Don Sak to Koh Samui, in both directions: 180 baht, up from 170 baht.
- Don Sak to Koh Phangan, in both directions: 250 baht, up from 240 baht.
The increase is 10 baht on each route. That is a rise of a little under 6 percent on the Samui route and about 4 percent on the Phangan route.
Why fares went up
Seatran linked the change to its operating costs, which rose with fuel prices. The Nation noted that Brent crude oil had passed 100 US dollars a barrel on 13 March 2026, and that there was concern about the effect of oil prices on tourism in Thailand.
Ferries were not the only transport to become more expensive. Two weeks later, on 27 March 2026, The Nation reported that Bangkok Airways would raise its domestic fares by 15 to 20 percent on average from 1 April 2026. The airline said the price of jet fuel had gone from 80 to 90 US dollars a barrel to 170 to 180 US dollars. Samui airport is the main hub of Bangkok Airways.
What to check before you travel
The figures above are the ones published in March 2026. Fares can change again if fuel prices move, in either direction. Before you travel, check the current price and timetable with the ferry company. If you buy a combined ticket, for example a bus and ferry from Surat Thani airport, ask what is included in the price. Allow extra time in periods of bad weather, when sea conditions can disturb sailings.
What it means for your stay
For most visitors the change is small. Ten baht more per crossing does not change a holiday budget. The ferry is still the way to bring a car to the island. The bigger change in 2026 is the price of flights, so some travellers now compare a direct flight to Samui with a flight to Surat Thani followed by a road transfer and a ferry. The second option costs less but takes several hours more. If you arrive by ferry, tell your villa team which pier and which sailing you are on, so that your transfer is waiting. Once your travel plan is clear, you can check villa availability for your dates.
