Club Med plans to open a 303-room Exclusive Collection resort on Koh Samui's north coast in the second half of 2028.
Club Med is coming to Koh Samui. On 21 April 2026 the French holiday company announced a new resort on the island in partnership with the Thai investor Central Group Capital. The opening is planned for the second half of 2028.
What is planned
According to the company's press release, the resort will have 303 rooms and a private beach more than 200 metres long. It is about 25 minutes by car from Samui Airport. The trade publication Latte Luxury News places it on the north coast of the island and describes the project as the redevelopment of an existing property, with more rooms and upgraded facilities. The reports we read do not name the beach.
The resort will belong to Club Med's Exclusive Collection, its top range. The announced facilities include:
- a kids' club and the brand's family programme
- sports and leisure activities by the beach
- several restaurants
Why it matters for Samui
Club Med says this will be its third Exclusive Collection resort in its East and South Asia Pacific region. In Thailand, the company has operated a single resort, in Phuket, since 1985. Samui will be the second.
The partner is also worth noting. Central Group Capital launched an investment fund of 10 billion baht, about 300 million US dollars, in April 2023. A project backed by a large Thai group suggests that investors expect demand on the island to last.
Latte Luxury News adds one sign of current demand: Club Med's advance sales for its Phuket resort for 2026 were reported to be 41% higher than the year before, according to the company's manager for the Pacific market.
More rooms, slowly
Samui has added few hotel rooms in recent years. A 2025 review by C9 Hotelworks counted 24,188 rooms on the island and growth of about 1% a year over five years. A resort of 303 rooms is therefore a large addition for one project. Because it reuses an existing site, the net increase will be smaller than the headline figure.
The date is still a plan. Hotel openings are often delayed, and the company gives only a half-year, not a month.
What it means for villa owners
An all-inclusive family resort and a private villa do not serve the same guest. Club Med sells a package with meals and activities for families who want everything organised. A villa suits groups who want privacy, their own pool and freedom to explore. Still, a well-known international brand brings marketing to new markets, and some of those families will come back later for a different kind of stay. Owners of family villas on the north coast have two years to prepare: safe pools, children's equipment and a clear service offer. We can advise on this through our villa management in Koh Samui.
