Ang Thong Marine Park: Closure Dates for Samui Visitors
· Luxy Samui
Ang Thong Marine Park closed from 1 November to 15 December 2025. The same window is the usual yearly closure. Plan boat trips around it.
Ang Thong National Marine Park, the island group most visitors reach by boat from Koh Samui, was closed from 1 November to 15 December 2025. Tour company Asian Trails reported the closure on 27 October 2025 and said it was announced by the Thai government. The same six-week window is the park's usual yearly break, so travellers planning a trip for late 2026 should take note.
Why the park closes
According to Asian Trails, the 2025 closure was for environmental restoration and conservation work. The aim was to protect the wildlife and the fragile marine ecosystems of the park. The company described the park as a group of 42 islands in the Gulf of Thailand, with limestone cliffs, lagoons, white-sand beaches and coral reefs.
The guide site Thai National Parks gives a second reason: the weather. It says the park is usually closed from 1 November to 15 December, depending on conditions during the monsoon season. In other words, the dates can move if the sea is rough.
Fees and opening hours
Thai National Parks lists the following details, which it dates to May 2026:
- Entrance fee for foreign adults: 300 baht.
- Entrance fee for foreign children aged 3 to 14: 150 baht.
- Entrance fee for Thai adults: 40 baht, and for Thai children: 20 baht.
- Opening hours: every day from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm when the park is open.
The same site says the whole park covers 102 square kilometres and lies about 30 kilometres from Koh Samui. It also says that access is only possible through licensed tour operators. Group tours are the normal way to go, and private charters are also available.
What we do not know yet
At the time of writing we have not seen an official notice with the closure dates for the end of 2026. The pattern from 2025 and the usual dates given by Thai National Parks both point to 1 November to 15 December, but this is not confirmed. Fees can also change. Please check the current official park announcement, or ask your tour operator, before you travel or pay for a tour.
Other options during the closure
Asian Trails noted that the closure comes at the same time as the reopening of other marine sites in Thailand, such as the Similan Islands, the Surin Islands and Maya Bay. These are on the other side of the country, so they suit travellers who combine Koh Samui with a second stop.
What it means for your stay
If Ang Thong is high on your list, try to visit Koh Samui before November or after the middle of December. If your dates fall inside the closure, book your boat day only after the park confirms it is open, and keep one or two free days in case the sea is rough. There are many other things to do in Koh Samui while you wait. Guests staying with us can ask our team to help choose a licensed operator.
